The shell observation page provides you with the tools to manage each observation from opening through closeout.
How to read a Shell Observation
Each Shell observation includes a high-resolution, closeup view of the defect with an Orange Box surrounding the defective area. The title of the observation page also includes the observation's Trade and Element Type and the observation type can be found in the element locator panel.
The observation image can be expanded by hovering over it and clicking expand
For some observations, inspection notes may be added to the observation to help describe the defect shown in the observation image.
The location map provides a snip of the elevation plan showing the location of this observation. It can be expanded by hovering over the map and clicking the expand button.
Assigning a User to an Observation
In the upper right-hand corner of every shell observation is the "assign-user" box. Clicking in the box will allow you to search the project's users and assign them the current observation. Each observation can also be assigned a due date.
Note: Only users that have been added to the project can be assigned an observation.
Closing an Observation
To close an observation update its status by clicking on the Status dropdown.
Here, users can update the observation to For GC Review or Closed to complete the observation lifecycle.
Note: Only users with Approve permissions can close an observation; users with Edit permissions will only be able to move an observation to For GC Review.
When closing an observation, the user will be asked to provide an explanation for why the observation is being closed.
- Observation Corrected: The deficiency has been corrected per the design documentation.
- Plan Coordination: There is no deficiency as the observation either:
- References the wrong plan.
- Is correct per an RFI (please include the RFI number in the comments)
- Cannot be found in the field.
- Accepted As Installed: The deficiency does not need to be corrected because:
- It can't be corrected since it's already covered up or is inaccessible.
- The deviation from the plan is the result of the field conditions and is OK.
- There was a coordination issue in the field and the current condition is the result of an agreed-upon resolution.
- There is a deviation from the plan but the current condition was approved.
Clicking SAVE will then update that observation's status.
Note: The GC can choose to re-open an observation that was closed for GC review if they disagree with the current resolution. In such a case, the observation status will return to "In Progress"
Adding a Comment and Image
The comment thread allows you to add a text comment or attach an image to either provide additional documentation of the current condition or of the repair after the correction.
