Shell Overview Page
When you open a Shell building, the Overview page is the first thing you see. It gives you a focused snapshot of open observations that need your attention, tailored to your company's role on the project.
Whether you're a general contractor managing all trades or a subcontractor focused on your assigned scope, the Overview surfaces the right data for you automatically.

Your View Based on Role
The Overview page adapts based on your company's role on the project. You don't need to configure anything. Siteaware detects your role and adjusts what you see.
Subcontractors see only observations assigned to their company's trades. Open issues include Pending and In Progress statuses. The default view is organized by Trade.
General contractors see all observations across the project. Open issues include Pending, In Progress, and Waiting for Review statuses. The default view is organized by Construction Stage (Layer).
If your company holds both GC and trade roles on a project, the GC view applies.
Open Issues and Upcoming Deadlines
The top of the Overview displays two panels side by side: your Open Issues summary on the left and Upcoming Deadlines on the right.
Open Issues Panel
This panel shows your company's open observation counts.
Total open issues. The count of all open observations under your company's role. For subcontractors, this means Pending + In Progress items in your assigned trades. For general contractors, it also includes Waiting for Review.
Status breakdown. Individual counts for each status: Pending, In Progress, and (for GCs) Waiting for Review. Click any status to jump to the List View filtered to that status and your relevant trades.
Review all open issues. The main action button at the bottom of the panel. Takes you to the List View showing all of your open issues with your relevant trade filters pre-applied.
Punchlist count. The number of open Punchlist items within your open observations. Click to view them in the List View.
Covered count. The number of open observations flagged as Covered (see the Covered Observations section below). Click to view them in the List View.
Upcoming Deadlines Panel
This panel groups your open observations by due date urgency. Due dates are based on your company role, not individual assignee, so you see deadlines relevant to your company's work.
Only open observations count toward deadlines. If a due date is set but the observation is already closed, it won't appear here.
The panel is divided into three groups:
- Overdue (red indicator) - Issues with a due date before today.
- Next 14 days (blue indicator) - Issues with a due date from today through the next 14 days.
- Future (white indicator) - Issues with a due date 15 or more days out.
Each group shows the count of open issues and links to the List View with the matching due date filter applied.

Covered Observations
Sometimes construction progresses and an element gets physically covered (by weatherproofing, facade, drywall, etc.) before Siteaware could verify that a fix was completed. When this happens, the system flags the observation as "Covered."
The Covered flag calls attention to items that may need manual review due to not being accessible via AI analysis.
Only open observations with the Covered flag appear in your Covered count on the Overview. Clicking the count takes you to the List View with the Covered filter pre-applied.
For a full explanation of what Covered means, how it works, and what to do about it, see It says my observation was "Covered before verification" - what does that mean?
Trade and Layer Views
The lower section of the Overview lets you toggle between two views: Trade and Layer.
Trade View
Trade view shows one card per trade assigned to your company. Each card displays the total observation count for that trade and a clear link to open issues in the List View.
Hover (web) or tap (mobile) on a trade card to see a breakdown of observation counts by status.
Layer View
Layer view organizes observations by construction stage (Structural, Weatherproofing, Finishes, etc.). Each layer shows the total element count.
Both views respect your company role. Subcontractors see only their assigned trades' data in either view. General contractors see all project data.
Click any trade card or layer to navigate to the List View, filtered by that trade or layer plus your open issue statuses.
Navigating from the Overview
Every interactive element on the Overview page takes you to the List View with filters pre-applied based on what you clicked and your company role.
"Your relevant trades" means the trades assigned to your company through company roles. For GCs, open issues include Waiting for Review. For subcontractors, open issues are Pending and In Progress only.
Empty state sections (like deadlines with no items) are not clickable.
Frequently Asked Questions
I'm a subcontractor. Why don't I see Waiting for Review items? Waiting for Review means the observation has been addressed and is awaiting GC verification. Since subcontractors aren't responsible for that verification step, those items aren't included in your open counts or default filters. You can still access them through the List View if needed.
Why do I only see some trades on the Overview? As a subcontractor, you see only the trades assigned to your company. This keeps your view focused on work you're responsible for. General contractors see all trades across the project.
What does "Covered" mean? A Covered observation is one where the element was physically obscured by later construction (e.g., drywall installed over a structural element) before Siteaware could verify the fix through a new scan. These items need manual review to determine if the issue was resolved or if the area needs to be reopened.
Can I switch between Trade and Layer views? Yes. Use the toggle at the top of the lower section. Your selection doesn't affect the data shown in the Open Issues or Upcoming Deadlines panels above.
Where do the "Learn more" links in empty states go? They link to relevant knowledge base articles that explain how due dates work and how to manage them on your project.
Can I see observations from other subcontractors? The Overview page shows only your company's assigned data. If you want to see another subcontractor's observations, you can do so using the filters in the Map View and List View, which give you access to all project data.
I have both GC and trade roles. Which view do I get? If your company holds both roles, the GC view applies. You'll see all project data and all open statuses, including Waiting for Review.
I'm not seeing all of my trades, or I'm seeing trades that aren't relevant to me. Trade assignments on the Overview page are based on your company's role configuration in Siteaware. If your trades look incorrect - missing trades, extra trades, or trades assigned to the wrong company - contact Siteaware support to review and adjust your company's trade assignments.
